We are the UK's first and oldest luxury leather lingerie brand.
We work in the softest washable glove leather, and everything is still handmade in our Bristol studio by skilled artisans who love their work.
Here's how it all began....
Jules and Alex, messing with phones, mid shoot.
It's 1999 and I've got a problem.
I've just been booked for a Fire Breathing routine at Glastonbury Festival and I need something drop dead sexy and practical. And by practical I mean fire-proof.
So it's got to be leather.
But none of the available gear is actually very nice. It doesn't fit me, maybe I have a weird shape but I suspect this stuff fits no one, and it's a bit stiff and pokey. In fact, you just wouldn't want to wear it.
In frustration, I take a scalpel to my old soft leather gloves, and overnight I rework them. The resulting teeny glove leather bikini fits like an eponymous glove, I look and feel awesome and it's all a rip-roaring success.
The Fire Show was great, but that night I took orders for more teeny glove leather bikinis.
Within a couple of months I had a waiting list.....
Jules Fire-Breathing in the 90's
And that's it, the birth of Lux (and the end of my OU physics degree), we're small, but like that little leather bikini that started it all, we're perfectly formed.
We still love making beautiful things in leather for you and our luxury leather lingerie is designed to make you feel incredible. With due care and attention your Lux Tenebrae piece will last a lifetime. This is smart slow fashion at it's best, and we are committed to this alternative approach to clothing. This is luxury leather that will get better with age.
We have no High Street shops, no list of stockists, no shareholders, no bank loans, no sweatshops and no mass production-lines, we just give our time, skill and sublime leather for each unique item.Every Lux order is handmade by a small team of happy women earning a decent wage, working from home studios. This is a situation that allows us to customise every item that we make, and take into account your particular measurements. We are proud of our flexibility in method, and will always work with you to get a perfect fit.
Inside the Lux studio
Lux is fueled by green energy from Ecotricity.
Proud to be a bootstrap company.
The gorgeous leather that we use at Lux is entirely a by-product of the food industry. Without this kind of brilliant upcycling, it's estimated that 7.3m tonnes of waste from the global food industry could go directly into landfill.
