Enjoy complete peace of mind with our bespoke and made to measure services.
Made to Measure offers a quicker alternative than bespoke as your order doesn't go through the cotton fitting process. Items are made straight from your instructions, and this is perfect for small things like undies, suspender belts, bras, many skirts and some underbust corsets. If we spot any measurement that looks suspect we will always contact you to check. Ask Jules for advice if you are unsure.
Our Bespoke service lets you easily tweak your final design as well as check your item fits in the way you want. You'll have a cotton fitting toile and full instructions sent to you to double check the precise fit and change any bits you weren't sure about. This process puts quality before speed and time varies on the accuracy of your measurements, the distance in terms of postal service, the length of our waiting list to get to your first fitting.
Many items come with complimentary bespoke service, but anything else can be upgraded - click the 'Add to cart' button on this page for each item you wish to be bespoke or made to measure.
Both services involve you sending measurements and having an individual pattern made for you.
Both have the same premium workmanship - all of our finished items take days of intricate, delicate hand work.
The difference between the two is in the fitting process -
Bespoke items include a series of fitting toiles to get you a perfectly fitted garment, Made to Measure items offer the flexibility of sending us your individual measurements with the speed of off the peg.
What if it doesn't fit?
IN DETAIL - Our Bespoke Service
We know that it’s not possible for everyone to get to our studio, in which case our bespoke service runs as follows:
Upon ordering, we'll send you a list of measurements to take at home which we'll use to make your personal pattern.
If you need help when taking measurements then Jules is only a phone call or email away.
Then we make your first fitting toile (a white cotton replica of your order) for you to try out in the comfort of your own home, or here at the studio.
It comes with a small checklist of things for you to look through and instructions on how to photograph what's going on. We've been working remotely like this since 2003, so we've got the process down to a fine art. It's easy and we'll be with you every step along the way.
We would expect the following timeframes
underbust corsets 1-2 fittings
skirts 1-2 fittings
overbust corsets, trousers, jackets, wedding dresses, and cocktail dresses 1-3 fittings
Only when you are entirely happy will we commit your final piece in leather.
Those of you using the Bespoke Service are most welcome to make an appointment to visit the studio to have your toile adjusted personally by Jules, there's no beating a skilled hand and eye during the fitting process.
These days studio appointments are for clients with live orders - each visit shuts production so we have to strike a balance between great service and great production.
SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO CANCEL ORDERS
Making custom orders is a collaborative process between us and you, and sometimes that relationship breaks down and we need to cancel the order/contract to protect ourselves from financial loss. The usual way this happens is as follows:
Failure to send measurements:
If you have not supplied us any measurements within three months of your order, we will consider the order cancelled and supply you with a Lux Tenebrae credit note for the amount paid.
Failure to give feedback on fittings sent:
When we send your fitting, we expect to get detailed feedback from you within a reasonable period of time, for argument's sake let's say within two weeks. If after three weeks we haven't heard from you then we will send you a reminder, but if you haven’t supplied enough feedback for us to continue work after four weeks we will consider the order cancelled by you and supply you with a Lux Tenebrae credit note for the amount paid minus a charge for the work done @£40 per hour plus materials and postage.
