Our Bespoke and Made To Measure Services
Both services involve you sending measurements and having an individual pattern made for you.
Both have the same premium workmanship - all of our finished items will take days of intricate, delicate hand work.
Bespoke items also include a series of fittings to get a perfectly tailored garment. We pour our time, effort and passion in to these bespoke pieces and the process can take months until completion.
Optional visits to the studio are included in the price of all bespoke items, and with a small consultation fee for our made to measure clients. It's not compulsory to visit the studio, we can do it all by mail and internet, but it can be helpful to plan in some visits, as there's no beating a skilled hand and eye during the fitting process, although a Skype video call is a good substitute when a visit is out of the question.
Made to measure items miss out the fitting process so are therefore quicker from beginning to end.
Everything in our bespoke range represents an investment in time and money that will give a beautifully finished garment. Our made to measure range offers a slightly quicker, less expensive alternative as sometimes that's all that's needed.
Either way, you are buying sublime leather and the time and skill of our experienced corsetiers, and as a bonus, we'll inject our passion and enthusiasm from beginning to end. Priceless.
IN DETAIL
Our Bespoke Atelier Service
For those of you who would like the luxury of your own personal corsetier, or you simply don't relish the idea of measuring at home we offer a full atelier service inclusive for bespoke clients, and with a modest fee for our made to measure clients.
Clients visiting the studio can have a pattern made directly against their body. The benefit is that we can then fit your chosen design in sympathy with your body, any waist reduction will fall perfectly between hip girdle and ribcage, dresses will effortlessly envelope your every curve. Whilst here you can browse our gorgeous leathers and silks, as well as having a close look at the corsets that we keep here on show. A visit to Lux Tenebrae is always an uplifting and exciting experience as Jules' enthusiasm and passion are catching! Lux bespoke atelier service is Jules preferred method of work, because this level of accuracy can only grow from a highly personal initial consultation.
For those of you who can not reach the studio, our bespoke service runs as follows:
Upon ordering, we'll send you a list of measurements to take at home which we'll use to make your personal pattern - we don't use commercial pattern blocks, only your own measurements, pencil, ruler and paper. Patterns can take anywhere between 2 and 6 hours to draw.
If you need help when taking measurements then
Jules is only a phone call or email away. Because we make each item to your
measurements and we can not be held responsible for any mistakes you may
make. But, in practice, if we spot a measurement that looks suspect we
will always contact you to check, and we also get the chance to correct any errors at the fitting stage.
Then we make your first fitting toile (a white cotton replica of your order) for you to try out in the comfort of your own home, or here at the studio. It comes with a small checklist of things for you to look through, and some pins and pens for marking the toile. You report back to us via email any alterations you wish.
It's a real if you can send digital pictures with your instructions so that we can see in detail, how the toile fits you, again Skype can be a brilliant help at this point. You are not on your own at this stage, Jules is always available by phone to help with your fitting.
Things to check, with photos if possible
-length of corsets, trousers, skirts, sleeves etc.
-does it sit nicely on the waist?
-is the shape of the hip and bum correct?
-are they as tight or loose as you would like across the thigh and arm?
-fit across bust and back?
-can you sit down comfortably?
-Are all the seams on the vertical or horizontal lines they should be (hips straight from side to side, side trouser seam up and down)
-we need to know about all wrinkles and pull lines
-photos of problem areas in detail, as well as photos of front back and sides, even if you think they are all perfect!
You send the marked up toile back to us, we alter the paper pattern and send a new fitting out to you.
We would expect
underbust corsets 1-2 fittings
skirts 1-4 fittings,
overbust corsets, trousers and jackets 2-6 fittings
aria corsets, wedding dresses, cocktail dresses and catsuit's 2-20 fittings
Only when you are entirely happy will we cut your final piece.
Our Made to Measure Service
Our main consideration is that you have a perfectly fitting garment and
we use many different methods to achieve this, depending on the size and complexity of the item.
Small Items of Underwear that's all of our men's and MFWC ranges, women's Pants, Suspender belts, some straight forward, unwired bras.
We've drawn up our own pattern blocks for these, and still cut each piece individually as ordered, so it's easy to tweak the fit for you.
You tell us of any special fitting instructions you want. In practice, we will always fix any problems with a finished item if it doesn't fit you perfectly.
For larger items we'll send you a list of measurements to take at home. We will use these measurements to make your personal paper pattern.
If you need help when taking measurements then
Jules is only a phone call or email away. Because we make each item to your
measurements and we can not be held responsible for any mistakes you may
make. But, in practice, if we spot a measurement that looks suspect we
will always contact you to check.
Made to Measure clients are very welcome to come and have the personal touch here at the studio. You may prefer to come for a personal
measuring and fitting consultation, with follow up appointments to check the toile, whilst others will just use the appointment to check the toile fittings, having first sent over the measurements. Either way works well, it all depends on your confidence with a tape measure. The one off made to measure fee of £75 covers as many appointments as you need per order.
Please phone for your appointment on 0117 9851488 or 0784 3388815, or
text or email, or drop us a line and Jules will phone you back.
If you need local accommodation during your visit to the studio, we have compiled a list of hotels and bed & breakfasts, recommended to us by our past customers.
