MEASURING YOURSELF FOR A DRESS
We work in both cms and inches, so please choose the one that suits you best. If you have no preference, then in inches please.
Relax and don't pull the tape too tight. You want to measure your normal,
comfortable posture. To begin, please tie a string or ribbon around your
waist so that we can use this line to measure up and down. If you wear
a bra, then it's helpful to take the measurements whilst wearing one.
1. How Tall Are You?
2. Measure down from the nape of the neck to the waist.
3. Measure down from waist to knee.
4. Measure down from waist to bottom of dress.
NECK/BACK
5. Measure around neckline
6. Measure shoulder length
7. Measure back width
8. Measure armhole depth (this is always just a 'guesstimate' as to how
far down the armhole starts in a straight line from the middle of the
shoulder.)
ARMS
9. Measure from shoulder to wrist
10. Measure the desired arm length of dress
11. Measure from wrist, to shoulder, and up to nape of neck
12. How wide would you like the bottom of the sleeve?
13. Measure around the largest part of your upper arm
14. What kind of neckline or collar do you want?
BUST
15. Measure your upper chest, this is above your nipple line, straight across from arm to arm.
16. Chest/Bust: wrap the tape around you at the fullest point, usually at the nipples, to measure your chest/bust.
17. Measure from nipple to nipple across the body
18. Measure from the fullest point down to your waistline, in a straight
line.
19. What bra size do you usually wear?
20. Measure your underbust. On women, this is taken at the place where
your bra band rests, or at the base of the pectoral muscle for men.
21. Measure the distance down between this point and your waistline.
22. Measure the distance up between this point and your nipple.
23. Measure the distance from your underbust, up and over your shoulder
and down to where the bottom bra band sits on your back.
24. Measure from your front shoulder, from the middle of your shoulder,
down over the bust to the waist.
WAIST
25. What is your waist measurement?
26. To get the curve of your hips correct for the pattern take measurements
around your body 3" and 5" down from waist
27. Measurement your hips at their fullest and how far from your waist
this is.
